GPS Tracking
12/09/09 at 14:25:15

It's high time that we had a topic dedicated to this modern threat.  With devices available at major outlets like Target and Radio Shack that enable ANYONE to have real-time GPS tracking of a vehicle (Zoombak), the potential to be caught being somewhere you shouldn't has increased exponentially.

This device is smaller than a pager, can be mounted anywhere and runs on batteries for several days.  Users can login to a website to find exactly where you are, and it isn't expensive.  Ouch.

Time to be smart people.

As readers know from my other posts, the best way to avoid being caught is not to arouse the suspicion in the first place.  You are less likely to be discovered if nobody is looking.  Yes, you can be found out accidentally but I must assume if you visit this site that general precautions will prevent that.

However, assuming the spouses antennae are up, you should assume you are being tracked this way.  Just as you assume your cell phone records will be found, and your computer infected with spyware.

Defeating this threat actually means ACCEPTING it.  Tailoring your movements and locations to accomodate the data it provides.  Whenever possible, make sure that your alibi puts you where the data puts you.  Lie about location as infrequently as possible.

Obviously, you don't say you are at a hotel, but is there a mall or library next door?  Get a little exercise and walk a block.

If you have to go out of town when you aren't supposed to, consider renting a car (PREPAID credit card, remember!).

The more often your story incorporates the real locations you are in, the more likely you corroborate your alibi, rather than increasing the suspicion.
